"The Past is never dead.
It's not even past."

—William Faulkner, Requiem for a Nun
The present exists because there was past. People keep forgetting or not concerning about the historical event, however we need memorials not only to remind, but also to respect the memorable factors.

I was inspired by a Korean historical event, Japanese colonial era, and I like to evoke needs of our appreciation toward our ancestor's hardship through establishing a seashell-sculpture as a memorial. Since the seashell has a symbolic meaning of the interior listening and eternal tides of life according to its physical property of making sound, it represents people's attitude how they should listen to the importance of our history and awaken power of the history. This sculpture will take a role as a contemporary shrine of our history as it offers people time and place to see, hear, and understand the significance of remembering history.
